INQUIRY LEARNING PROCESS MODEL

In the Interactive Learning Community, learners use an online digital portfolio as individuals or teams as a guide to inquiry. You may find yourself collaborating with students from other different classes or different districts, creating virtual teams through your portfolio work. Use the portfolio as a notebook, recording how you are inquiring into the situation or topic. For help when you are in the portfolio, click on the word to see a popup description.

IDEAS List your ideas, hypotheses, or hunches about the nature of the problem.
KNOWLEDGE Make a list of everything you know based on reading the scenario and from what you already know about this topic.
PROBLEM Develop a problem statement. Define the problem in terms that you understand.
QUESTIONS Make a list of questions you think you need to answer in order to solve the problem. Prioritize the questions. Decide which are most important to your research and should be answered first, given the amount of time available
PLAN OF ACTION Develop a plan of action within your group to research the questions.
RESEARCH AND INVESTIGATION Conduct research and investigations. Write a summary of your findings. What is the information suggesting? List your sources. Do you have multiple sources? Are they credible?
ANALYSIS

Analyze and interpret the data. Show the development of your thinking.

RECOMMENDATIONS AND SOLUTIONS

Develop recommendations or solutions to the problem.

PRESENTATIONS OF FINDINGS

Now that you have developed recommendations, think about how to present them to an audience of stakeholders. Write a description of the presentation and include links to pictures, video, or audio clips in this field.

REFLECTIONS

Reflect on what you have learned and how you have learned it. How did you work as a team? What insights did you have? What will you remember 5 years from now? What did you learn about learning?
